Psalm 19:6
Its rising is from the end of the heavens and its circuit to the end of them, and nothing is hid from its heat.
We made our way to my mom’s house to spend the afternoon with her on my birthday. My stepbrother, Chuck, bought me a delicious chocolate cake that I shared with my stepdad. After spending time with her and my stepdad I went to dinner with my older sister, Lisa, my friend Christine, and Michael, my husband. We went to a Mexican restaurant called Isla Hermanas. It had only been open for nine months. The place was modern and the food was good. Michael and I shared one of the signature dishes, a whole grilled fish that I believed to be a snapper. It was delicious and served with tortillas, so I was able to eat tacos for my birthday.

The next day, my mother surprised me with a manicure and pedicure and I had a post-birthday lunch with my sister, Lisa. Palm Desert is so stifling hot, it was hard to repack the car, even when we did it at 8 am.

Our next stop was Prescott, Arizona. Our dispersed campsite was in Prescott Basin, some miles south of the town and I felt we were finally getting out of the heat. While we were setting up camp, we had a huge eight-legged visitor. My sister, Deborah, named him Henry the 8th. The next morning we headed into town to get wi-fi. We stopped at a cute cafe with a patio in downtown Prescott. I had a very sweet vanilla and honey latte, not my usual goto and a maple coffee cake. It was, after all, still my birthday weekend… sort of.

After Prescott we headed to Monument Valley, or just outside to a HipCamp site. On our way, we stopped by the south rim of the Grand Canyon. We took a little but hot stroll on the rim trail and then we were back on the road. Our camp site in Monument Valley offered us spectacular views of the monuments both at sunset and sunrise. It was lovely. Michael made us a yummy dinner and we drank one of our library reds.

Next stop, Ridgway, Colorado. The road less traveled we decided to take (because our trip goes back and forth in this direction a few times before we head east in earnest) and it was the most beautiful highway thus far. We went through so many different vistas and formations. We also stopped at the Hovenweep National Monument for a moment. Michael had written a blog about this place while working at the Utah Museum of Natural history so we had to check it out.

We are in Ridgway for about a week before we visit our friends Brian (Michael’s college buddy) and Jill (Suzanne’s college buddy) in Denver.
Wow, that camping spot looks amazing. I love your dog living his best life ❤️
Thank you Christine! Sebastian is having a good time,
